IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, The Eighth day of July Anno Dmo One Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty I JONATHAN HULLEY of the 
Walluhouse in Rainow in the County of Chester Gentleman being indisposed as to my health but of sound & perfect mind and memory praised be 
God for the same do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following AND first and principally I Commend my Soul 
into the hands of Almighty God my Creator trusting assuredly through his merries and the Merritts of my Lord and Saviour JESUS CHRIST to Inherit 
Everlasting life AND my body I comitt to the Earth to be decently Interred at the discretion of my Executors herein after named AND as touching and 
Concerning such Temporall and Worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me I give and dispose thereof as follows AND first it is my 
Will and mind and I do hereby direct and appoint That all such debts as I shall owe at my death together with my funerall expenses shall be first paid 
and discharged out of my personall Estate AND WHEREAS I have heretofore in the Halmott Court of Macclesfield in the said County in due form of 
Law Surrendered into the hands of Trustees All that my Copyhold Estate heretofore by me purchased to such uses as I should by my last Will and 
Testament in writing or by any other Deed in writing to be by me lawfully executed declare direct Limitt & Appoint NOW I Do hereby Declare and it is 
my Will and mind and I do hereby Give Devise and bequeath All my said Copyhold Estate so by me purchased as aforesaid together with all other 
my real freehold and Copyhold Estates unto my eldest Son JASPER HULLEY his heirs and Assigns for ever PROVIDED Nevertheless and I do 
hereby charge the Roefield Palfrey Meadow and Sprink (part of the said Copyhold Estate) with the payment of the sume of eight pounds per Annum 
to my loveing wife ALICE HULLEY for and during her Naturall life And also it is my will and Mind that my said loveing wife shall peaceably and quietly 
hold and enjoy the house in the Barkstreet in Macclesfield called the Apes Nest and the Rents Issues and profitts thereto to receive and take for her 
own use & behest for and during her Naturall life AND also that he the said JASPER HULLEY shall pay (and the whole premises shall be chargeable 
with and hereby Charged with the payment of) Two Hundred pounds of lawfull money of Great Brittain to be paid unto and Amongst my Children 
HANNAH CLARK wife of THOMAS CLARK of Rainow in the sd. County Yeoman JOHN HULLEY ELIZABETH HULLEY AMYE BRESNE (wife of 
JOHN BRESNE of Macclesfield aforesaid Apothecary) and JONATHAN HULLEY to be equally divided amongst them discounting only for so much 
as they or any of them have already received Also I give and bequeath unto my said wife ALICE HULLEY a Sixth part of All my household Goods 
and Goods in the house both Eatables and drinkables Quick and dead And of all my Cattle and Stock and husbandry Wares upon the Estate now in 
my possession (but not of any of my Bonds Notes debts or ready money) Which I give and bequeath together with the rest and residue of my 
personall Estate unto and Amongst the said HANNAH CLARK JOHN HULLEY ELIZABETH HULLEY AMYE BRESNE & JONATHAN HULLEY 
equally to be divided amongst them share and share alike The said household goods to be apprazed and Inventoryd AND if my said Wife or any of 
my said Children shall have a desire for any of my sd. household Goods or husbandry Wares that they shall have the Same at the price they are 
valued at the Eldest to Choose before the Youngest and my wife to have the first Choice But it is my Will and mind and I do hereby order direct and 
Appoint that the part Share or portion that shall fall to my daughter AMYE BRESNE shall be laid out by three of my Executors hereafter named Vizt. 
my Loveing Wife ALICE HULLEY my brother JAMES HULLEY and DANIEL WRAGG with all Convenient speed that maybe and to the best 
Advantage that maybe And the Interest and profits Arising thereby to be paid to and received the said JOHN BRESNE during his life and after his 
death then to the said AMYE BRESNE during her life if she be then living Or if dead then both Principal and Interest to go to the Children of the said 
JOHN BRESNE equally Amongst them share and share alike the same to be paid to them as they shall respectively come to their Age of Twenty 
One Years or Marriage which shall first happen AND It is my further Will and mind that from and after the death of my said Wife the said Sixth part or 
Share of Personalty so given to her as aforesd. (Or so much thereof as she shall dye possessed of) shall go unto and be equally divided amongst the 
five Legatees above mentioned Vizt. HANNAH JOHN ELIZABETH AMYE & JONATHAN equally amongst them And if any of the said Five Legatees 
shall dye without issue before my said wife then his or her part so dyeing shall go to the Survivrs. equally amongst them PROVIDED always 
Nevertheless that if my said loveing wife shall not be Content with what I have herein before given and provided for her but shall Claim or Attempt to 
Claim her thirds of in or to any of my Goods or Chattles Lands or Tenements Or shall otherways Molest or disturb any of my Children or any of the 
Legatees in or concerning what I have herein and hereby given devised and bequeathed to them or any of them That then and in such Case It is my 
Will and mind and I do hereby revoke and make Void what I have herein before given to JOHN BRESNE or AMYE his wife and to JONATHAN 
HULLEY and instead of haveing an equall part or share with the rest of my Children as before divided Do only give leave and bequeath to each and 
every one of them one shilling in lieu and full satisfaction of each and every of their parts and shares of in and to All and every or any of my Goods 
and Chattles Lands and Tenements ITEM I give leave and bequeath to my Son JAMES HULLEY the sum of One Shilling in full of his part or Share 
of in or to All every or any my Goods or Chattles Lands or Tenements I haveing already Sufficiently provided for him ITEM I give to my eldest Son 
JASPER HULLEY over and above what he has already had and received One Broad piece of Gold in full of his part and Share of in and to my 
household Goods and husbandry Ware and of in and to the Cattle and Stock upon my Estate Save and except the Col Pitt Rodds Wine Glasses 
Ropes and other Utensils belonging to the Col pitts Also it is my further Will and mind and I do hereby direct and Appoint that if my said Son 
JASPER HULLEY or his Assignes shall at any time betwixt and Lady day next Obstruct or hindr the Cattle that are upon the premises to eat up the 
proffits thereof both Corn and hay  Cut & uncutt Saving Sufficient for three Plow horses & a Saddle horse if the said JASPER if arraising Or at any 
time betwixt and then shall drive or Impound the same (saving to my said son JASPER Liberty to Manure and Cultivate the Grounds in their proper 
Season) Or at any time hereafter shall obstruct or hinder my said Wife from the peaceable and quiet possion and Enjoyment of what is herein before 
given devised and bequeathed unto her That then and thereupon the said JASPER HULLEY and JOHN HULLEY and their Heirs shall be from 
thenceforth Utterly excluded and debarred from Claiming any Right or Title to the said Roe field Palfrey Meadow and Sprink but the said Roe field 
Palfrey meadow and Sprink together with the Rents and profitts thereof shall from thenceforth go and be received by my said loveing Wife ALICE 
HULLEY during her Naturall life And from and after her decease then to my son JONATHAN and the Heirs Male of his body if he have any And if he 
dye without such Issue Then to THOMAS BRESNE Son of the said JOHN BRESNE & his heirs Male if he has any AND for want of such Issue Male 
then to my Right Heirs for ever AND LASTLY I do hereby nominate & Appoint my said loveing wife ALICE HULLEY my brother JAMES HULLEY of 
Macclesfield forrest Yeoman DANIEL WRAGG of Cubley in the County of Darby Yeoman and the said THOMAS CLARK JOHN HULLEY 
ELIZABETH HULLEY and JOHN BRESNE Executors of this my Last Will and Testament hopeing they will perform the same as my Trust is in them 
AND I do hereby Revoke and make Void all former Wills by me heretofor made and Declare this to be my last Will and Testament IN WITNESS

Acquittance to the Executors of Jonathan Hulley’s Will

Whereas Jonathan Hulley late of the One House in Rainow in the County of Chester Gent. deceased, did in and by his Will dated on or about the 
fourth day of July 1730 Give and devise his Personall Estate together with the sume of two hundred pounds to be paid and applyed to and amongst 
Hannah Clark, wife of Thomas Clark, John Hulley, Elizabeth Hulley now wife of Francis Worthington, Amye Brescie wife of John Brescie, 
Jonathan Hulley and Alice Hulley, as by the said will is directed.  Now know all men by these presents that we Thomas Clark, John Hulley, 
Francis Worthington, John Brescie, Jonathan Hulley, and Alice Hulley do herby own and acknowledge to have hold and received all the whole 
Personall Estate devised by the Will of the said Jonathan Hulley, as also the aid charge of two hundred pounds according to the true intent and 
meaning of the said Will. And we do by these presents acquitt and discharge James Hulley of Macclesfield Forest yeoman, and Daniel Wragg of 
Cubley in Derbyshire, yeoman, and all other persons whatsoever, of and from all accons, suits, troubles, claims, and demands whatsoever, which 
shall or may happen or arise for or by reason of the said Will of the said Jonathan Hulley or for or by reason of any of his Personall Estate so 
devised by the said Will.  The part or share so devised by the said Will to Amye Brescie to remain upon the trusts specified in the said Will 
notwithstanding this Release or Discharge.  In witness whereof we have hereunto sett our hands and seals this twenty third day of July 1731.

Complainant – Jasper Hulley Gent.
Defendants - The Right Hon. The Lady Bridget Viscountess Dowager Fauconberg, Thomas Dawson.
Depositions  of  Witnesses  taken at the house of Joseph Forster Innholder in Macclesfield  27  May  1729. (Extracts only) 
William Bullock of Macclesfield Yeoman 30 years and upwards. -  said that he served with the Defendant as Steward and Receiver of Rents & Profits 
of her Estate in County  of  Nottingham.  He attended the Complainant as a Servant to wait upon him. The Complainant was then at his father's 
dwelling house near Macclesfield.
John Hawkins the younger of Macclesfield aged 24 and upwards. - referred to Jonathan Hulley Gentleman (Complainants father).
John Norton of Sutton Downes Shoemaker 70 years and upwards. -  Observed that Jonathan Hulley the Complainant's father and two others were  
employed for the said Lady  Fauconberg  but  whether  as Commissioners or otherwise this Depont.  knows not, only believes  that  the  said 
Jonathan Hulley acted as Commissioner therein and this Depont.  Saith that he continued in the Said Lady’s Service for about one year and a 
halfe the now Complaint.  for about one year in that time he acted as  Steward for  and was in Great favour and Esteem with the said Lady 
Fauconberg and this Depont.  had frequently  observed him to sit at Table at Dinner and Supper with her And this Depont. never heard her blame or 
commend the Complt.  Jonathan Hulley within the parish or Prestbury Gentleman aged 66 years or thereabouts being Sworne and Examined. - He 
knows the Complt. who is Son to the Depont. In or about the year 1717 he put the Complt. his Son as Clerke or  Apprentice to William Latus of 
Manchester in the County of Lancaster Gentleman who is an Attorney at Law to learn and be instructed in the profession of Law and ... gave with his
Said Son to the Said Mr Latus the sume of Sixty Foure Poundes and Ten Shillings.  Saith the Said Complaint. was by Indentures dated the 1st of 
January in the said year 1717 bound to the Said Mr Latus to serve him as Clerke from the date thereon for the term of foure yeares then next 
ongoing and that the Said Complaint.  did in pursuance of the Same Indentures serve and remaine with  his  Said Master as a Clerk for the said 
Terme of four Years and behaved himself faithfully in his  Said Service as the Depont.  verily believed.  And this Depont.  is the better inclined to 
Such Beliefe for that the Complt.  Continued wth his Said Master as a Clerk for the Space of Six Months or thereabouts next after the Expiration 
of the Said Indenture of Apprenticeship. -  said that the Lady Fauconberg wanted the Complt.  and that he must come with all Expedition to her at  
Sutton Hall aforesaid and that there were letters come from London which must be  answered.  And saith;  that  the Complaint. did instantly go 
thither according to the Said Message and this Depont.  saith that about a Month or two  before  the Month of August above mentioned he received a 
letter from the Lady Fauconberg who was  then  at Sutton Hall wherein she expressed her Self well pleased with the conduct and management of the 
Complaint. in her Affaires and  that  if his knowledge and parts were well knowne there would not be so many  knaves and fooles employed or words 
to that effect.
Charles Hibbert of Sutton Innkeeper aged 57 and upwards. -  on 27 April 1727 did receive from the Complaint.  (who was then Steward or Receiver 
of the Lady  Fauconberg's Rents) the sume of £7 6s 7d. 
Elizabeth Lyons of Sutton Hall widdow 30 years. -  said  that  the  Complaints.  father  was Sworn a freeman and to keep  the  Secrets  of  the  
Corporation of Macclesfield.  Saith that  the  Complaints. Cozen William Booth of Upton went with him  to  Sutton  Hall.  The Complaint. said that he 
was very ill used by his father and Stepmother.

house in the said County Gentleman  - the Ninth day of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred Thirty and Two – was publickly 
in the Guildhall of the said Burrough admitted a ffreeman and was then sworne a Burges of the said  Burrough of Macclesfeild as in and by the 
records and Rolls of Burgesses there remaining may appear By virtue of which said Admittance and of several antient Charters and Grants therefore 
Granted to the Burgesses of the said Burrough and their successors the said Jasper Hulley  - is freed and acquitted of and from all manner of Toll

To which payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves and each of us Severally for and in the whole, our Heirs Executors and Administrators,

THE Condition of this Obligation is such, That if there be not any Impediment of Præcontract, Consanguinity, Affinity, or other lawful Cause to hinder
 the Marriage of ye above bounden Jasper Hulley & Elizabeth Forster of Macclesffield aforesd. Widow or any Controversy or Suit depending in any
Court before any Ecclesiastical Judge touching any Contract or Marriage of either of the sd Parties with any other and if the said Parties have obtained 
thereunto the express Consent of their Parents if they be Living, or otherwise f their Guardian or Governors, and shall celebrate the said Marriage in  
the Chapelry of Rainow or Peover according to the Letters of Dispensation to them in that behalf granted. And finally shall at all times hereafter save 
and keep harmless the above-named Lord Bishop his Vicar General And his Surrogates, and all other his Officers for and concerning the granting of
the said Letters: Then this present Obligation to be void, or else to remain effectual in the Law.

This Indenture Tripartite made the 1st Nov. 1750 Between Jasper Hulley of Rainow. Chester, Gentleman, of the first part, Elizabeth fforster of 
Macclesfield, in the said County, widow, of the second part, and John Hulley of Macclesfield aforesaid, Dealer in Malt, and Thomas Evanson of 
Macclesfield aforesaid, Chapman, of the third part.  Whereas in and by a Marriage Settlement bearing date the 12th January 1730 made between the 
said Jasper Hulley of the first part, Mary Hulley late wife of the said Jasper Hulley of the second part, and Philip Wright of Peover in the said 
County, Gentleman, Thomas Bradock of Macclesfield aforesaid, dyer, Thomas Heywood of Macclesfield aforesaid, gentleman, and Thomas 
Sanders of Namptwych in the said County, Grocer, of the third part, there is a proviso inserted for the said Jasper Hulley by any of his deed, will, or 
writing, to grant or appoint so much of the Lands comprised in the said Settlement not exceeding the yearly value of £30 for the use of the second or 
other wife of the said Jasper Hulley for her life, for her jointure, and after such deed or will should be made then the said Philip Wright &c. should 
stand seized of the said premises, To the intent that such money should be raised and paid accordingly.  And whereas a marriage is shortly intended 
to be had between the said Jasper Hulley and the said Elizabeth fforster, in consideration of which Marriage the said Jasper Hulley hath agreed to 
assure to the use of the said Elizabeth fforster one clear yearly rent of £30 out of the said lands and tenements comprised in the said recited 
Settlement, and also the further yearly sum of £10 out of other lands &c. of the said Jasper Hulley.  And whereas the said Elizabeth fforster is 
possessed of a tenement in Peover (under Sir Francis Leicester) for her life, and also of a personal estate to the amount of £500 Now this Indenture 
Witnesseth that in consideration of the said intended marriage and tenement and other the personal estate of the said Elizabeth Forster which the 
said Jasper Hulley will be entitled unto upon under the said intended marriage, and in consideration of 5s to him the said Jasper Hulley paid by the 
said John Hulley and Thomas Evanson, and in pursuance of  the said power to the said Jasper Hulley given by the said recited Settlement, He 
the said Jasper Hulley hath granted and appointed all that the said messuages, lands,  &c. comprised in the said settlement, and all other the 
messuages, lands, &c. which he the said Jasper shall die possessed of, in case the said Elizabeth survive the said Jasper Hulley her said intended 
husband, shall stand charged with the said yearly sum of £30, and also the further yearly sum of £10, to the said Elizabeth Forster for her life, by 
half-yearly payments, with power of distraint in case of non-payment.  And after the decease of the said Jasper Hulley the said Elizabeth shall 
quietly enjoy the said tenement in Peover aforesaid, for her life.  Provided nevertheless, That it shall be lawful for the said Elizabeth at any time, by 
any her deed or last will in writing, to give any sum or sums of money not exceeding £300, whereof £200 shall be given to Mary Hulley and 
Jonathan Hulley son and daughter of the said Jasper, in such shares as she shall appoint, and the other £100 to such person as she the said 
Elizabeth shall direct. 
The said Jasper Hulley agrees that inn case the said Elizabeth shall survive him, she shall have the free use of all the plate, china, linen, and other 
household furniture for her life, and shall have liberty to sit in the family seat of pew of the said Jasper Hulley within the Parochial Chapel of 
Macclesfield.

apparent of the said Elizabeth Lowe and Mary his wife of the first part. Thomas Furnival of Congleton gent. of the second part, and Jasper Hulley 
of the One House in Rainow, gentleman, of the 3rd part. Settlement of messuages and lands in consideration of a marriage lately had and solemnised 
between the said Barnabas Lowe and Mary his wife, daughter of the said Jasper Hulley. Lands, principally at Congleton and a messuage in Alderley

On which day appeared personally Jasper Hulley of Rainow within the Parish of Prestbury in the County and Diocese of Chester Gentleman and 
and being sworn on the HOLY  EVANGELISTS, alledged and made Oath as follows, That he is of the Age of Sixty Years and upwards, and a
Widower and intends to marry Mary Lowndes of Macclesfield within the said Parish aged Forty Years and upwards, and a  Widow not knowing or 
believing any lawful Let, or Impediment, by reason of any Praecontract, entered into before the Twenty-fifth Day of March, One Thousand, Seven 
Hundred, and Fifty Four, Consanguinity, Affinity, or any other Cause whatsoever, to hinder the said intended Marriage: And he Prayed a Licence to

Indenture bipartite made 11 Sept 1787 Between Jasper Hulley of the One House within Rainow, co. Chester gentleman, of the one part, and Martha 
Hulley of the same place spinster of the other part, Whereas by indenture dated 26 March 1766 made between the Hon. James  Cholmondeley of 
Rock Savage  co. Chester, Esq., of the one part and Jasper Hulley of Rainow aforesaid gentleman grandfather of the said Jasper Hulley, party hereto 
of the other part the former did lease to the latter those two closes or parcels of land situate in Macclesfield Parke  containing by estimation 2 acres  
and called the Sharpley Fields or Lower Fields and also one moss room? or parcel of moss ground in Macclesfield Park containing half an acre or 
thereabouts, formerly part of Henry Higginbottom’s tenement to hold to the said Jasper Hulley during the lives of John Hulley of Manchester   
gentleman, deceased, Jonathan Hulley son of Jasper Hulley deceased and Martha Hulley daughter of the said Jonathan Hulley, at the yearly (rent) of 
6s. 3d. And whereas by indenture of assignment dated 25 March 1779 made between Jonathan Hulley of the One House within Rainow gentleman, 
administrator of goods &c. of his father the said Jasper Hulley deceased, grandfather of the said Jasper Hulley, party hereto therein mentioned to be 
of the One House within Rainow of the one part & the said Jasper Hulley, party hereto, of the other part it was witnessed that the said Jonathan 
Hulley did assign unto the said Jasper Hulley, party hereto,  the said two several closes &c. to hold to the said Jasper Hulley for and during the lives 
of them the said John Hulley, Jonathan Hulley and Martha Hulley & subject to the said rent &c. And whereas the said Jasper Hulley lately agreed 
with the said Martha Hulley  for the absolute purchase of the said two closes of land &c, for and during the natural life of the said Martha Hulley 
(being the only surviving life now in being in the said recited lease mentioned) at the price of £100. Now this indenture witnesseth that in 
consideration of the sum of £100 paid by the said Martha Hulley to the said Jasper Hulley, the latter hath conveyed to the former the said two closes 
of land &c. then in the holding of Thomas Legh and Son, for the life of the said Martha.

are holden and firmly bound unto the Right Reverend Father in God Samuel by Divine permission Lord Bishop of  Chester in the Sum of  Fifty Pounds
of good and lawful Money of Great Britain, to be paid unto the said Right Reverend father his lawful Attorney, Executors, Administrators or Assignes,
To which payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves and each of us Severally for and in the whole, our Heirs Executors and Administrators,
of each of us firmly by  these Presents, Sealed with our Seals and dated the  Thirteenth Day of October  in the Twenty Fourth year of the Reign of our
Sovereign Lord George the Second, King of Great-Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, and in the Year of our Lord God, One thousand

THE Condition of this Obligation is such, That if there be not any Impediment of Præcontract, Consanguinity, Affinity, or other lawful Cause to hinder

Court before any Ecclesiastical Judge touching any Contract or Marriage of either of the sd Parties with any other and if the said Parties have obtained 
thereunto the express Consent of their Parents if they be Living, or otherwise f their Guardian or Governors, and shall celebrate the said Marriage in  
the Chapelry of Rainow or Peover according to the Letters of Dispensation to them in that behalf granted. And finally shall at all times hereafter save 
and keep harmless the above-named Lord Bishop his Vicar General And his Surrogates, and all other his Officers for and concerning the granting of
the said Letters: Then this present Obligation to be void, or else to remain effectual in the Law.

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, The Eighth day of July Anno Dmo One Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty I JONATHAN HULLEY of the 
Walluhouse in Rainow in the County of Chester Gentleman being indisposed as to my health but of sound & perfect mind and memory praised be 
God for the same do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following AND first and principally I Commend my Soul 
into the hands of Almighty God my Creator trusting assuredly through his merries and the Merritts of my Lord and Saviour JESUS CHRIST to Inherit 
Everlasting life AND my body I comitt to the Earth to be decently Interred at the discretion of my Executors herein after named AND as touching and 
Concerning such Temporall and Worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me I give and dispose thereof as follows AND first it is my 
Will and mind and I do hereby direct and appoint That all such debts as I shall owe at my death together with my funerall expenses shall be first paid

Testament in writing or by any other Deed in writing to be by me lawfully executed declare direct Limitt & Appoint NOW I Do hereby Declare and it is 
my Will and mind and I do hereby Give Devise and bequeath All my said Copyhold Estate so by me purchased as aforesaid together with all other 
my real freehold and Copyhold Estates unto my eldest Son JASPER HULLEY his heirs and Assigns for ever PROVIDED Nevertheless and I do 
hereby charge the Roefield Palfrey Meadow and Sprink (part of the said Copyhold Estate) with the payment of the sume of eight pounds per Annum 
to my loveing wife ALICE HULLEY for and during her Naturall life And also it is my will and Mind that my said loveing wife shall peaceably and quietly 
hold and enjoy the house in the Barkstreet in Macclesfield called the Apes Nest and the Rents Issues and profitts thereto to receive and take for her 
own use & behest for and during her Naturall life AND also that he the said JASPER HULLEY shall pay (and the whole premises shall be chargeable 
with and hereby Charged with the payment of) Two Hundred pounds of lawfull money of Great Brittain to be paid unto and Amongst my Children 
HANNAH CLARK wife of THOMAS CLARK of Rainow in the sd. County Yeoman JOHN HULLEY ELIZABETH HULLEY AMYE BRESNE (wife of 
JOHN BRESNE of Macclesfield aforesaid Apothecary) and JONATHAN HULLEY to be equally divided amongst them discounting only for so much 
as they or any of them have already received Also I give and bequeath unto my said wife ALICE HULLEY a Sixth part of All my household Goods 
and Goods in the house both Eatables and drinkables Quick and dead And of all my Cattle and Stock and husbandry Wares upon the Estate now in 
my possession (but not of any of my Bonds Notes debts or ready money) Which I give and bequeath together with the rest and residue of my 
personall Estate unto and Amongst the said HANNAH CLARK JOHN HULLEY ELIZABETH HULLEY AMYE BRESNE & JONATHAN HULLEY 
equally to be divided amongst them share and share alike The said household goods to be apprazed and Inventoryd AND if my said Wife or any of 
my said Children shall have a desire for any of my sd. household Goods or husbandry Wares that they shall have the Same at the price they are 
valued at the Eldest to Choose before the Youngest and my wife to have the first Choice But it is my Will and mind and I do hereby order direct and 
Appoint that the part Share or portion that shall fall to my daughter AMYE BRESNE shall be laid out by three of my Executors hereafter named Vizt. 
my Loveing Wife ALICE HULLEY my brother JAMES HULLEY and DANIEL WRAGG with all Convenient speed that maybe and to the best 
Advantage that maybe And the Interest and profits Arising thereby to be paid to and received the said JOHN BRESNE during his life and after his 
death then to the said AMYE BRESNE during her life if she be then living Or if dead then both Principal and Interest to go to the Children of the said 
JOHN BRESNE equally Amongst them share and share alike the same to be paid to them as they shall respectively come to their Age of Twenty 
One Years or Marriage which shall first happen AND It is my further Will and mind that from and after the death of my said Wife the said Sixth part or 
Share of Personalty so given to her as aforesd. (Or so much thereof as she shall dye possessed of) shall go unto and be equally divided amongst the 
five Legatees above mentioned Vizt. HANNAH JOHN ELIZABETH AMYE & JONATHAN equally amongst them And if any of the said Five Legatees 
shall dye without issue before my said wife then his or her part so dyeing shall go to the Survivrs. equally amongst them PROVIDED always 
Nevertheless that if my said loveing wife shall not be Content with what I have herein before given and provided for her but shall Claim or Attempt to 
Claim her thirds of in or to any of my Goods or Chattles Lands or Tenements Or shall otherways Molest or disturb any of my Children or any of the 
Legatees in or concerning what I have herein and hereby given devised and bequeathed to them or any of them That then and in such Case It is my 
Will and mind and I do hereby revoke and make Void what I have herein before given to JOHN BRESNE or AMYE his wife and to JONATHAN

Whereas Jonathan Hulley late of the One House in Rainow in the County of Chester Gent. deceased, did in and by his Will dated on or about the 
fourth day of July 1730 Give and devise his Personall Estate together with the sume of two hundred pounds to be paid and applyed to and amongst 
Hannah Clark, wife of Thomas Clark, John Hulley, Elizabeth Hulley now wife of Francis Worthington, Amye Brescie wife of John Brescie, 
Jonathan Hulley and Alice Hulley, as by the said will is directed.  Now know all men by these presents that we Thomas Clark, John Hulley, 
Francis Worthington, John Brescie, Jonathan Hulley, and Alice Hulley do herby own and acknowledge to have hold and received all the whole 
Personall Estate devised by the Will of the said Jonathan Hulley, as also the aid charge of two hundred pounds according to the true intent and 
meaning of the said Will. And we do by these presents acquitt and discharge James Hulley of Macclesfield Forest yeoman, and Daniel Wragg of

Walluhouse in Rainow in the County of Chester Gentleman being indisposed as to my health but of sound & perfect mind and memory praised be 
God for the same do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following AND first and principally I Commend my Soul 
into the hands of Almighty God my Creator trusting assuredly through his merries and the Merritts of my Lord and Saviour JESUS CHRIST to Inherit

Whereas Jonathan Hulley late of the One House in Rainow in the County of Chester Gent. deceased, did in and by his Will dated on or about the 
fourth day of July 1730 Give and devise his Personall Estate together with the sume of two hundred pounds to be paid and applyed to and amongst 
Hannah Clark, wife of Thomas Clark, John Hulley, Elizabeth Hulley now wife of Francis Worthington, Amye Brescie wife of John Brescie, 
Jonathan Hulley and Alice Hulley, as by the said will is directed.  Now know all men by these presents that we Thomas Clark, John Hulley, 
Francis Worthington, John Brescie, Jonathan Hulley, and Alice Hulley do herby own and acknowledge to have hold and received all the whole 
Personall Estate devised by the Will of the said Jonathan Hulley, as also the aid charge of two hundred pounds according to the true intent and 
meaning of the said Will. And we do by these presents acquitt and discharge James Hulley of Macclesfield Forest yeoman, and Daniel Wragg of 
Cubley in Derbyshire, yeoman, and all other persons whatsoever, of and from all accons, suits, troubles, claims, and demands whatsoever, which 
shall or may happen or arise for or by reason of the said Will of the said Jonathan Hulley or for or by reason of any of his Personall Estate so 
devised by the said Will.  The part or share so devised by the said Will to Amye Brescie to remain upon the trusts specified in the said Will

32 To all Christian people &c. Jonathan Hulley of the One House in Rainow co. Chester, gentleman, sends greetings. Whereas the said Jonathan Hulley 
by surrender duly passed according to  the custom of the mannor and forest of Macclesfield in the said county, on or about the 11th July 12 George I 
[1726] did surrender, grant and convey to Thomas Braddock of Macclesfield aforesaid, dyer, and Joseph Lowe of the March in Ranow aforesaid and 
their heirs, all those closes and parcels o land of him he said Jonathan Hulley situate lying and being in Ranow aforesaid, at or near a certain place 
there called Edesbury, and then and now in the tenure of the said Jonathan Hulley, and commonly called Rowfield alias Ryfield, the Rushy meadow,
and Sprink thereunto adjoining, ‘the Bottfield’ and Watson’s Meadow containing 9½ acres of land, Cheshire measure, and all ways, waters, 
watercourses &c. thereto belonging with the reversion and remainder of all the said premises. To have and to hold the said premises with the 
appurtenances unto the said Thomas Braddock and Joseph Lowe and their heirs forever.  To the use and intent that the said Thomas Braddock and 
Joseph Lowe and their heirs shall be seized of the premises aforesaid to such purposes and under such conditions as the aforesaid Jonathan Hulley
by his last will and testament in writing or by any other of his writing duly signed and sealed should limit declare or appoint, and in default of such 
limitation, then to the use and behoofe of the said Jonathan Hulley and his heirs forever.  To be holden of  our Lord the King as Lord of Macclesfield
by the accustomed rents and services.  Now know ye that the said Jonathan Hulley in pursuance of the power and authority to him given and 
reserved, and in consideration of the affection which he beareth towards James Hulley and Jonathan Hulley two of his younger sons, doth by this 
deed duly signed and sealed appoint that the aforesaid surrender shall be and enure, and that the said Thomas Braddock and Joseph Lowe and
their heirs shall by virtue thereof be seized of the said premises to the use and behoof of the said James Hulley and Jonathan Hulley the sons their

Walluhouse in Rainow in the County of Chester Gentleman being indisposed as to my health but of sound & perfect mind and memory praised be 
God for the same do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following AND first and principally I Commend my Soul 
into the hands of Almighty God my Creator trusting assuredly through his merries and the Merritts of my Lord and Saviour JESUS CHRIST to Inherit 
Everlasting life AND my body I comitt to the Earth to be decently Interred at the discretion of my Executors herein after named AND as touching and

Nevertheless that if my said loveing wife shall not be Content with what I have herein before given and provided for her but shall Claim or Attempt to 
Claim her thirds of in or to any of my Goods or Chattles Lands or Tenements Or shall otherways Molest or disturb any of my Children or any of the 
Legatees in or concerning what I have herein and hereby given devised and bequeathed to them or any of them That then and in such Case It is my 
Will and mind and I do hereby revoke and make Void what I have herein before given to JOHN BRESNE or AMYE his wife and to JONATHAN 
HULLEY and instead of haveing an equall part or share with the rest of my Children as before divided Do only give leave and bequeath to each and 
every one of them one shilling in lieu and full satisfaction of each and every of their parts and shares of in and to All and every or any of my Goods 
and Chattles Lands and Tenements ITEM I give leave and bequeath to my Son JAMES HULLEY the sum of One Shilling in full of his part or Share 
of in or to All every or any my Goods or Chattles Lands or Tenements I haveing already Sufficiently provided for him ITEM I give to my eldest Son 
JASPER HULLEY over and above what he has already had and received One Broad piece of Gold in full of his part and Share of in and to my 
household Goods and husbandry Ware and of in and to the Cattle and Stock upon my Estate Save and except the Col Pitt Rodds Wine Glasses 
Ropes and other Utensils belonging to the Col pitts Also it is my further Will and mind and I do hereby direct and Appoint that if my said Son 
JASPER HULLEY or his Assignes shall at any time betwixt and Lady day next Obstruct or hindr the Cattle that are upon the premises to eat up the 
proffits thereof both Corn and hay  Cut & uncutt Saving Sufficient for three Plow horses & a Saddle horse if the said JASPER if arraising Or at any 
time betwixt and then shall drive or Impound the same (saving to my said son JASPER Liberty to Manure and Cultivate the Grounds in their proper 
Season) Or at any time hereafter shall obstruct or hinder my said Wife from the peaceable and quiet possion and Enjoyment of what is herein before 
given devised and bequeathed unto her That then and thereupon the said JASPER HULLEY and JOHN HULLEY and their Heirs shall be from 
thenceforth Utterly excluded and debarred from Claiming any Right or Title to the said Roe field Palfrey Meadow and Sprink but the said Roe field

Whereas Jonathan Hulley late of the One House in Rainow in the County of Chester Gent. deceased, did in and by his Will dated on or about the 
fourth day of July 1730 Give and devise his Personall Estate together with the sume of two hundred pounds to be paid and applyed to and amongst 
Hannah Clark, wife of Thomas Clark, John Hulley, Elizabeth Hulley now wife of Francis Worthington, Amye Brescie wife of John Brescie, 
Jonathan Hulley and Alice Hulley, as by the said will is directed.  Now know all men by these presents that we Thomas Clark, John Hulley, 
Francis Worthington, John Brescie, Jonathan Hulley, and Alice Hulley do herby own and acknowledge to have hold and received all the whole 
Personall Estate devised by the Will of the said Jonathan Hulley, as also the aid charge of two hundred pounds according to the true intent and 
meaning of the said Will. And we do by these presents acquitt and discharge James Hulley of Macclesfield Forest yeoman, and Daniel Wragg of 
Cubley in Derbyshire, yeoman, and all other persons whatsoever, of and from all accons, suits, troubles, claims, and demands whatsoever, which 
shall or may happen or arise for or by reason of the said Will of the said Jonathan Hulley or for or by reason of any of his Personall Estate so 
devised by the said Will.  The part or share so devised by the said Will to Amye Brescie to remain upon the trusts specified in the said Will 
notwithstanding this Release or Discharge.  In witness whereof we have hereunto sett our hands and seals this twenty third day of July 1731.

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I MARY HULLEY of Macclesfield in the County of Chester Widow allthough labouring at present under some 
indispositions of body yet being of sound and disposing Memory and Understanding blessed be God for the same do make and ordain this my last 
Will and Testament in manner and form following That is to say First I will and order that all my debts and funerall expenses and the Charges of 
probate hereof be first paid out of my Personall estate  Allso it is my Will and mind and I do hereby give to HANNAH HANSON wife of the Reverend
