George Hulley of Delaware County.
One of the sons of the original George stayed behind in Delaware county and did not go
with his brothers to Indiana. His name was George and he was born in 1802. His first
wifes's name was Jane Whitten and from that union there were three sons, George,
Elkanah, and William, and three daughters, Sarah, Rebecca, and Hannah. His second

Page 24 - The Graves at Wayne - A few miles west of Philidelphia lies the town of
Wayne, and there at the intersection of West Wayne Avenue and Conestoga Road, a
stones-throw from the Lincoln Highway, is a churchyard containing many old graves.
Four of these graves contain the remains of six of my (Elkanah) ancestors.
These graves lie directly at the rear of a comparatively modern church that graces the
front of the cemetery. Off to one side stands a small structure that was the old-time
church. Built of quarry stone and whitewashed, this century-old edifice has been
remodeled into a cottage, that is rented to a family of Italians who professed ignorance
that their home had once been a church.
The center grave has a marble slab at its head showing it to be the last resting place of
my great grandfather, George Hulley who died July 11 1853, aged 51 yeras, 1 month,
11 days. This grave also contains the remains of his first wife, Jane. At the left is a small
headstone at the grave of George Hulley's son, Elkanah. The headstone gives this
information: " Elkanah, son of George and Jane Hulley, died July 2, 1847 in the 9th year
of his age." A few feet to the right is that of their daughter, Rebecca, wife of Samuel
Kay, died July 6, 1862, aged 29 years.9 months, 1 day, and their daughter Jane Kay,
died August 11, 1863, aged 2 years, 8 months." Elkanah and Rebecca were the
younger brother and sister of my grandfather, George Hulley.

32. Abbie Ann Hulley

Extract from 'A History of The Hulley Family from 1490 to 1963'. Clarence Cotton wrote
on Page 16:- William Hulley had an illegitimate daughter by some girl before he
married Aunt Mary Ann. Her name was Abbie Ann Hulley. She married Nassau Worrell
of Penna. They moved to Moorefield. Nassau was a stonemason by trade. He built the
foundation of my father's house in 1866. It was built right after the Civil War. Everything
by done by hand in those days. The brick was made on the ground and burned there.
Nassau and Abbie had three boys and 1 girl. The son Elwood bought the house in Mt.
Sterling and gave it to his mother. He fixed it so Nassau could not trade it off. Him and
work did not get along. I knew I had a notice of Abbie Worrell's death somewhere. As I
went to supper I got a piece of paper out of my pocket, looked at it. Here it is. This is on
the stone. Abbie Worrell died Dec 21 1892, aged 58 yrs.

This Abbie must have been quite a woman. The descendants of her and Nassau ocupy
a prominent place in the chart.

I knew Geo. S. Hulley, married Cordie Mercer, one son Will, badly spoiled. Will not
work. Geo is a carpenter, was not at home much to make him do. Geo. had 59 acres
of land. Geo fixed the will so Will could not sell it or it would have gone long ago when
Geo got helpless. Will treated his Dad wrong until the people waited on him and told
him what he could expect. He straighened up some.
