General Register Office

This was established by Act of Parliament and commenced operation in the 3rd quarter of 1837. Registration of births, marriages and deaths were not compulsory until 1874 and consequently there are bound to be gaps in the indexes before that date. The indexes are arranged by quarters - entries for January, February and March are shown in the March index; April, May and June in the June index; July, August and September in the September index; and those for October, November and December are in the December index.

I have collected all the Hulley, Hully, Ulley and Ully entries from 1837 up to 1900. These comprise the following numbers:-

  • Births 1737
  • Marriages 858
  • Deaths 1187

They are on a computer database for easy access and searching.
