Kansas. His children were George, Annie, Sarah, and Eva. His wife was Edith Winkler.

Extracts from "A History of the Hulley family 1490 to 1963" page 25. George, who wrote
the letter about the graves at Wayne, was a chemist with Eavenson's Soap Works in
Philidelphia. He studied chemistry at Drexel Institute. I should remember him but I
don't. At any rate, what scraps of information I have about him show him to be a worthy
member of the family. I find his death notice among the papers giving his date of death
as January 25, 1946.

Extracts from "A History of the Hulley family 1490 to 1963" page 26. My sister and I visited
Cousin Eva in Philidelphia in 1959. We found her to be a fine elderly lady, refined and
very gracious. I was amazed at the interest she took in the family and her solicitude
about different members. She is the one who was instrumental in obtaining the early
history from England, a copy of which she sent me. She also had pictures of the "One
House" made and sent me one. She has been suffering from arthritis for some years
and spent some time in Tucson. My sister Charlotte is real close to her and they see
each other occasionally. Right now she is confimed to a chair but, in spite of her
affliction, gets around with the aid of her chauffeur, and enjoys life to the full. She was
married to William Weihenmayer, an industrialist, and had one son, William, who died at
age two.
(Editor (Robert Hulley Velte) :- After William Weihenmayer's daeth, Eva married a Mr.
Mount who also died prior to 1960.)

1965 2 Dec - letter written by Mrs Eva Hulley Weihenmayer to "Mayor of Macclesfield, Rainow,
Cheshire, England" published in the Macclesfield Express. She wrote: I wonder if you
could help me out. I am a Hulley descendant and I have a pictuure of the house in
black and white. I am hoping that you have a coloured postcard of the window with the
216 panes of glass. Also the ceiling which they say, is so beautiful. It is called One
House, solitary, or lonely house. It is located in Rainow, Cheshire. I have never been
able to come over to see it and I am almost 90. I would love to have the picture.

2003 20 Sep - Note by Ray Hulley: I hold a copy of the articles which was published in the
Macclesfield Express on 2 and 9 December 1965 as a result of the above letter. There
are two photographs of the exterior of the One House, which also appear in my booklet
- The History and Hulley families of the One House -see my website for details.
It is not clear how Mrs Weihennayer came to link her American ancestors with the
Hulley families of the One House. Her ancestors (and mine!) were from working class
stock in the Ashton under Lyne district of Lancashire - see the naturalization papers of
George Hulley the original settler - whilst the Hulley branch of the One House were an
integral part of the north east Cheshire land-owing meritocracy.
The forename Elkanah appeared several times in the parish registers of St Michael's
church, Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire and also occasionally in those of St Chad's
church, Saddleworth (an adjoining parish), but never in the registers of St Michael's
church, Macclesfield.

on Page 17 - my mother's name was Goodwin. My grandmother Goodwin, I think,
came from Kt. I am not sure. I believe grandmother was related remotely to the
Todds. Abe Lincoln married a Todd, if I remember correctly. Grandmother thought
Lincoln was one of nature's noblemen.

Elkanah Hulley, Mayor of Marion, IN. In the old days, the means of
communication were very lacking so, in time, the Philidelphia clan and the Indiana
clan lost track of each other. How they came together makes an interesting story.
Uncle Elkanah was studying theology at Chicago University at the time of the World's
Fair in 1893. As part of his religious work, he attended a national convention of the
YMCA held at the fair, at in looking over the list of delegates, he came across the
name of Elkanah Hulley, a delegate from the Y at Marion, Ind. This Elkanah H., who
owned an iron foundry and was mayor of Marion, was the first one thereupon to
compile a brief list of our imediate family. Later, he turned the material over to Uncle
Lincoln who elaborated it. He, in turn, passed ot me (ie William C. Hulley). Each one
added to it.
