Testament in manner and form following That is to say First I will and order that all my debts and funerall
expenses and the Charges of probate hereof be first paid out of my Personall estate Allso it is my Will
and mind and I do hereby give to HANNAH HANSON wife of the Reverend Mr. JONATHAN HANSON of
Macclesfield my Silver Tankard marked with the Letters in Case she happen to Survive me I allso give to
MARY RATHBONE daughter of JOSIAH RATHBONE of Macclesfield fifty pounds in Case she happen to
Survive me I allso give and devise to my Nephew THOMAS LITLER And to his heirs and Assigns All that
my Messuage or Dwelling house with its Appurtenances Situate and being in or near the Jordangate in
Macclesfield which I lately purchased from JOHN HOLLINGSHEAD All the rest residue and Remainder of

1771, between the hours of two and six in the Afternoon, subject to Conditions then and there to be

Lot 1. A Messuage and TENEMENT, with a Garden, Barn, Stable, & other conven--ient Outbuildings, in
good Repair, and several Closes of Land, thereunto belonging, containing in the whole Nine Cheshire
Acres, or thereabouts, situate at Broken Cross within Macclesfield aforesaid, now in the occupation of
Samuel Goodwin, (who has a Term therein for 15 Years from Lady-day next) at the Yearly Rent of 35l.

1772 26 Dec - London Gazette - The Commissioners in a Commission of Bankrupt awarded and issued forth against
John Hulley, of Macclesfield in the County of Chester, Malster, intend to meet on the 222nd Day of
January next, at Two o’Clock in the Afternoon, at the House of Thomas Birchinall, known by the Name or
Sign of the King’s Arms, situated in Macclesfield, aforesaid, in order to make a Dividend of the said
Bankrupt’s Estate and Effects; when and where the Creditors, who have not already proved their Debts,
can come prepared to prove the same, or they will be excluded the Benefit of the said Dividend. And all
Persons, who have made any Claims, are to come and prove the same, or they will be disallowed. And
the Creditors are to consent to the commencing and prosecuting one or more Suits at Law or in Equity by
the Assignees, and to impower them to compound Debts owing to the said Bankrupt’s Estate, or to

KNOW all men by these presents, that we REBECCA HULLEY, spinster and ELIZABETH HOLLAND,
widow and PETER FOWLER, sexton all of Macclesfield in the parish of Prestbury in the County and
Diocese of Chester are holden and firmly bound unto the Right Reverend Father in God Henry WILLIAM
by divine Permission, Lord Bishop of CHESTER in the sum of Forty Pounds of good and lawful money of
Great-Britain and Ireland, current in that part of the said Kingdom, called ENGLAND, to be paid unto the
said Right Reverend Father. his lawful attorney, executors, administrators, or assigns: To which payment
well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, and every of us, severally for and in the whole, our heirs,
executors, and administrators, and the heirs, executors, and administrators of every of us, firmly by these
Presents. SEALED with our Seals, and dated the Twenty Ninth day of July in the Forty eighth year of the
reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE by the grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain
and Ireland, King, defender of the faith, and in the year of our Lord God, one thousand eight hundred and

THE CONDITION of this Obligation is such, that if the above bounden REBECCA HULLEY, the natural
and lawful daughter, and next of Kin and ADMINISTRATrix of all and singular the goods, chattells, and
credits of JOHN HULLEY late of Macclesfield in the parish of Prestbury in the County and Diocese of
Chester, Malt Man, deceased, do make or cause to be made, a true and perfect inventory of all and
singular the goods, chattells, and credits of the said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands,
possession, or knowledge of her the said REBECCA HULLEY or into the hands or possession of any
person or persons for her uses and the same, so made, do exhibit or cause to be exhibited into the
Registry of the Consistory Court of Chester at or before the Twenty ninth day of January next ensuing:
And the same goods, chattells, and credits of the said deceased, at the time of his death, which at any
time after shall come to the hands or possession of the said REBECCA HULLEY or into the hands or
possession of any other person or persons for her do well and truly administer according to law; and
further do make, or cause to be made, a true and just account of her said Administration, at or before the
Twenty ninth day of July which shall be in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and nine and
all the rest and residue of the said goods, chattells, and credits, which shall be found remaining upon the
said Administratrix's account, the same being first examined and allowed of by the judge or judges for the
time being of the said court, shall deliver and pay unto such person or persons respectively, as the said

CHESTER in the sum of Forty Pounds of good and lawful money of Great-Britain and
Ireland, current in that part of the said Kingdom, called ENGLAND, to be paid unto the
said Right Reverend Father. his lawful attorney, executors, administrators, or assigns:
To which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, and every of us,
severally for and in the whole, our heirs, executors, and administrators, and the heirs,
executors, and administrators of every of us, firmly by these Presents. SEALED with our
Seals, and dated the Twenty Ninth day of July in the Forty eighth year of the reign of our
Sovereign Lord GEORGE by the grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain

the parish of Prestbury in the County and Diocese of Chester, Malt Man, deceased, do
make or cause to be made, a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods,
chattells, and credits of the said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands,
possession, or knowledge of her the said REBECCA HULLEY or into the hands or
possession of any person or persons for her uses and the same, so made, do exhibit or
cause to be exhibited into the Registry of the Consistory Court of Chester at or before
the Twenty ninth day of January next ensuing: And the same goods, chattells, and
credits of the said deceased, at the time of his death, which at any time after shall come
to the hands or possession of the said REBECCA HULLEY or into the hands or
possession of any other person or persons for her do well and truly administer
according to law; and further do make, or cause to be made, a true and just account of

This is the Last Will and Testament of me REBECCA HULLEY of Macclesfield in the
County of Chester Spinster made and published as follows, that is to say, first I direct
that all my just Debts Funeral Expenses and the Charge of the Probate of this my will be
paid be my Executrix hereinafter named out of my own personal Estate and Effects. I
give and bequeath to my Niece MISS MARTHA LEGH All and every the Sum and Sums
of Money of which I shall be possessed or in any manner entitled unto at the Time of my
decease Together with the Security and Securities for the Same Upon Trust to place the
same Sums out at Interest upon Government, real or good personal securities as she
my said Niece shall in her direction think proper to answer the purposes of the Several
Legacies or Sums of Money by me hereinafter given and bequeathed and I hereby
empower my said Niece from time to time to call in the said sums and again place out
the same upon other securities as she shall think proper and most advantageous for
the persons for whose benefit the same are given and bequeathed. I give and bequeath
to FRANCES the widow of EDWARD PRICE for her Life the interest of the Sum of One
Hundred and fifty pounds and upon her decease I give and bequeath the principal of
the said Sum of one Hundred and fifty pounds to EDWARD and RICHARD the children
of the said FRANCES PRICE by her late husband the said EDWARD PRICE equally
between them in case they shall then be of age but if not of age them upon their
attainment of the age of Twenty one years and I direct the Interest of the said Sum of
One hundred and fifty pounds to be paid and applied in their Maintenance until their
attainment to the age of Twenty one years and in case either of them the said EDWARD
and RICHARD shall happen to die before becoming intitled to his share of the said
Sum of one hundred and Fifty pounds and without leaving lawful Issue him surviving
Then I give and bequeath the whole of the Said Sum of One hundred and Fifty pounds
to the Survivor but in case either of them so happen to die and shall leave lawful Issue
him surviving then I give and bequeath the share which the Father of such Issue would
have been intitled to if living unto his Issue and I direct the Interest thereof to be paid
and applied in and towards their maintenance and support during their respective
minorities and the Principal of such Share I direct To be paid to them on their attaining
the age of Twenty one years if more than one such Issue and if but one then I give and
bequeath the same to such only child upon his or her attainment to he age of Twenty
one years Provided always That in case both the children of the said FRANCES the
widow of the said EDWARD PRICE should happen to die before becoming intitled to
the said Sum of One hundred and Fifty pounds and that without leaving lawful Issue or
leaving such all of them shall also die under the age of Twenty one years then I give
and bequeath the interest of the said Sum of One hundred and fifty pounds unto my
Niece the said MARTHA LEGH and her assigns for her Life and after her death I give
and bequeath the Principal of the said Sum of One hundred and fifty pounds unto the
children of my two Nieces HANNAH TURNER and REBECCA TURNER equally share
and share alike in the same manner and with such benefit of Survivorship and
Limitations to Issue as hereinbefore mentioned respecting the children of the said
FRANCES PRICE. I give and bequeath to HANNAH the wife of GEORGE FROST of
Macclesfield Joiner and her assigns for life the Interest of the further Sum of One
hundred and fifty pounds and upon her decease I give and bequeath the Principal of
the said last mentioned Sum of One hundred and fifty pounds unto and equally
amongst all and every the Children of the said HANNAH by the said GEORGE FROST
her husband to be paid to them upon their attainment to the Age of Twenty one years
and in case they shall any one of them be under that Age before their Mother’s death
then I direct their shares to be also applied in their Maintenance and support during
their minorities and to be paid to them on attaining that age with the like benefit of
Survivorship and with such Limitations to their Issue as hereinbefore mentioned
respecting the shares of the children of the said FRANCES PRICE. I give and
bequeath unto my Niece HANNAH TURNER the widow of JAMES TURNER and her
assigns for her life the Interest of the Sum of Fifty pounds. I also give and bequeath
to the four children of REBECCA the late wife of GEORGE TURNER the Sum of One
hundred and fifty pounds and I direct the Interest thereof to be applied in their
Maintenance during their respective minorities in case they shall be under age at the
Time of my death and the Principal to be equally divided between them on their
respective attainments to the age of Twenty one years with the like benefit of
Survivorship and with such Limitations to their Issue as before mentioned concerning
the shares of the children of the said FRANCES PRICE and I also give and bequeath to
them the said four children of the said REBECCA the late Wife of the said GEORGE
TURNER the said Sum of fifty pounds (the Interest whereof I have given to my said
Niece HANNAH TURNER for life) to be paid and applied to such children and their
Issue in the same manner as I have directed the said Sum of One hundred and fifty
pounds to be paid and applied to them and for their benefit. I give devise and
bequeath to the said MARTHA LEGH and her assigns my Pew in Macclesfield Old
Church for and during the Term of her natural life and upon her decease I give devise
and bequeath the same to the said four Children of the said REBECCA TURNER TO
hold to them and their heirs for ever as Tenants in common and not as joint Tenants. I
also give and bequeath to the said MARTHA LEGH all and every my Security and
Securities on the chapel Turnpike Road together with all Interest which shall be due
owing and belonging to me at the Time of my decease to and for her own use and
disposal absolutely And it is my will and mind and I do hereby direct my Executors as
soon as may be conveniently after my decease to sell and dispose of all and singular
my household Goods and Furniture and Household Effects of any description
whatsoever either by Public Auction or Private Treaty and as to the money thereby
arising and as to all and singular other the Personal Estate and Effects of which I may
die possessed (not heretofore by me given and disposed of ) I do give and bequeath
the same as follows, that is to say, I give and bequeath one Guinea to each of the
three Daughters of the said REBECCA TURNER and all the rest residue and
remainder thereof I give and bequeath to the said MARTHA LEGH FRANCES PRICE
HANNAH TURNER and HANNAH FROST to be equally divided between then share
and share alike and in case of the death of any of them I give and bequeath the
Share of her or them so dying to the Survivors or Survivor of them ands I appoint the
said MARTHA LEGH Executrix of this my Will and direct that she shall be allowed all
Expenses which she shall put to in the Execution thereof and that she shall not be
answerable or accountable for more money than shall actually come to her hands
and possession nor for any loss that may be sustained in placing the said Trust
monies out at Interest provided the same be not occasioned by or through her wilful
Default or Neglect And hereby revoking at former Wills by me at any time heretofore
made I declare this to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have to
the two first sheets of this my Will (which is contained in three sheets of paper) set

his Examination; when and where the Creditors are come prepared to prove their Debts, pay
Contribution Money, and object, if they think fit, against the Commissioners signing his Certificate in
order for his Discharge.

1727 16 Sep - London Gazette whereas the acting Commissioners in a Commission of Bankrupt awarded against
Jasper Hulley, late of East-Cheap, London, Warehouseman, have certified to the Right Honourable
Peter Lord King, Baron of Ockham, Lord High Chancellor, of Great Britain, that the said Jasper Hulley
hath in all Things conformed himself according to the Directions of the several Acts of Parliament made
concerning Bankrupts; This is to give Notice that his Certificate will be allowed and confirmed as the
said Acts direct unless Cause be shown to the contrary, on or before the 9th of October next.

Note : the above 4 entries are considered to relate to this Jasper Hulley/Hooley. The only other Jasper
Hulleys alive at this time were his father Jasper Howley ex mayor of Macclesfield, and the Jasper Hulley
of the One House, who was a practising solicitor at this time.

Harrison House - A house was built on the parcel of land conveyed to Jasper Hooley in 1731 and is
mentioned in a deed dated 1738 Feb 7, as “all that messuage, burgage, or tenement commonly called
or known as Harrison’s House situate and being at or in a certain place in Macclesfield called the
“Waters”.
This property was bequeathed by Jasper Hooley to his son, Jasper. (see Ches03-001) His two sons,
Thomas (Ches03-310) and John (Ches03-309), and his daughter Rebecca (Ches03-311), were the
executors of the will which was proved in 1743. Jasper, Jr. died and the property went to Thomas.
In 1744 Thomas Hooley gives and devises to his brother, John, the dwelling house at the Waters called
Harrison’s.
Harrison’s House in Clock Alley and this locality was called “Waters” as well as that called “Waters” at
the present Day. Clock Alley crosses the bottom of Waterloo Street and Fence Street.

my Wife as aforesaid and the said Two Messuages or Dwellinghouses in Barkstreet in
Macclesfield aforesaid Subject to my Wife's life Estate therein AND ALSO as for and
Concerning my Messuage or Dwellinghouse in Macclesfield aforesaid in a Street there
called the Chestergate now in the possession of GEORGE HEARD AND ALL those Six
New built Dwellinghouses situate and being at the Waters in Macclesfield aforesaid
And one other Messuage or Dwellinghouse called Harrisons at the Waters in
Macclesfield aforesaid AND ALL those Closes or parcells of Land in Macclesfield
aforesaid called the Bowfields purchased from GODFREY WATKINSON Esquire, And
Stapleton Meadow which I purchased from PETER BROOKE Esquire And all other my
Messuages Lands and Hereditaments situate and being in Macclesfield aforesaid or
elsewhere with their appurtenances I Give and Devise the same unto my Two
Daughters MARY HOOLEY and HANNAH HOOLEY their Heirs and assigns for Ever
equally to be divided between them share and share alike as Tenants in Common and
not as Joint Tenants BUT I do Nevertheless hereby expressly Will and Declare that if my
said Daughter MARY shall die without Issue before my younger Daughter HANNAH
shall have attained the age of Twenty five years That then and in such Case I Give and
Devise the premises by me before Devised to my said Daughter MARY from and after
such her decease without Issue unto my said daughter HANNAH her Heirs and Assigns
for Ever AND I do also will and declare that in case my said Daughter HANNAH shall
die without Issue before she attains her age of Twenty five years that then and in such
case I give and devise the premises by me before Devised to my said Daughter
HANNAH from and after her decease without Issue unto my said Daughter MARY her
Heirs and Assigns for Ever Anything herein before contained to the contrary
notwithstanding AND as well as for and Concerning such part of my Household Goods
Plate and Linen and all my ready money and money out upon Securities and all other
my Personal Estate of what kind or nature soever I give and bequeath the same unto
my Two Daughters MARY and HANNAH HOOLEY to be equally divided between them
share and share alike to be paid to them respectively at their respective Ages of Twenty
two years and in the meantime to be Subject to the direction and management of my
Executors hereafter named AND I do hereby Nominate Constitute and appoint The
Reverend SAMUEL SAUNDERS Clerk Vicar of Knutsford in the said County, HARRY
LANKFORD of the fence within Hurdsfield in the same County Gentleman and my said
Daughter MARY HOOLEY Executors and Executrix of this my last Will and Testament
AND I give to each of them five Guineas a piece for their trouble AND hereby revoking
all former Wills by me at anytime heretofore made I do declare this to be my last Will

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I MARY HOOLEY of Macclesfield in the County of
Chester Spinster do make and publish This my Last Will and in manner and form
following that is to say Whereas by Indenture bearing date the nineteenth day of
August one thousand seven hundred and eighty made between me the said MARY
HOOLEY of the first part JOHN STONEHEWER Esquire (then living) and HANNAH his
Wife (my Sister) of the second part GEORGE CLOWES Merchant and the Reverend
DAVID SIMPSON Clerk of the third part and CHARLES CLOWES Esquire and PETER
WRIGHT Gentleman of the fourth part the Messuage or Dwelling house with the
appurtenances in a certain street in Macclesfield aforesaid then called Back Street
heretofore in the possession of BENJAMIN MATHER and afterwards of JOHN
HIGGINBOTHAM otherwise BENNETT and now in my own occupation were granted
and limited unto me my executors administrators and assigns for the term of ninety
nine years if I the said MARY HOOLEY and FRANCES the Daughter of WILLIAM
CLOWES Esquire or either of us should so long live And a certain Capital Messuage
and Tenement with the Lands Hereditaments and Appurtenances thereunto belonging
situate in Over Alderley in the County of Chester now or late in the possession of
ELISHA HULME together with the pews or seats in Alderley church and my Pew in the
North Aisle of the Parochial Chapel of Macclesfield were also limited to me the said
MARY HOOLEY during my life And after my death on failure of Issue the same were
vested in and limited to the Trustees therein named to the use of the Son or Sons
Daughter or Daughters of my said sister HANNAH STONEHEWER in such proportion
or form and with such restrictions (after my said sister’s decease) as I the said MARY
HOOLEY should by deed or will appoint subject to a power which was and is therein
given and reserved to and for me and my assigns to charge the said Hereditaments
and Premises with one or more Annuity or Annuities not exceeding the sum of Forty
Pounds clear of all deductions for and during the natural life of any one person as and
which I should whether covert or sole by my last Will and Testament nominate direct
declare limit or appoint such annuity or annuities To be paid and payable to the
Annuitant or Annuitants to whom I should give the same And Whereas by Indenture
bearing date the third day of May one thousand seven hundred and eighty one and
made between the said JOHN STONEHEWER and HANNAH his Wife of the one part
and me the said MARY HOOLEY of the other part After reciting the said Indenture of the
nineteenth day of August one thousand seven hundred and eighty And reciting that I did
inadvertently appoint the said FRANCES CLOWES to be the life by which the said
Messuage or Dwelling house and Premises late in the possession of the said
BENJAMIN MATHER was to be held by my Executors administrators or assigns after my
decease And that I was desirous of having the said Premises limited for the life of such
person as I should therefore nominate and appoint which the said JOHN
STONEHEWER and HANNAH his Wife had complied with The said Messuage and
Tenement late in the possession of the said BENJAMIN MATHER and the said sittings
in the said Parochial Chapel of Macclesfield were by the same Indenture to me my
executors administrators and assigns for the term of one hundred years if I the said
MARY HOOLEY and the said FRANCES CLOWES or such other person as I should by
my deed or will nominate and appoint for and in the place and stead of the said
FRANCES CLOWES or either of us should so long live Now I the said MARY HOOLEY
the Testatrix by virtue and in pursuance of the power and authority given and granted to
me in and by the said several in part recited Indentures and of all other powers and
authorities enabling me do by this my last Will and Testament duly executed in the
presence of the three credible persons whose names are hereunto subscribed as
witnesses to the execution hereof nominate and appoint my Niece HANNAH
NEWBOLD eldest daughter of my said sister HANNAH STONEHEWER now HANNAH
WALKER to be the person (in the stead of my Cousin FRANCES CLOWES) during
whose life the said Messuage and Tenement in Back Street (otherwise King Edward
Street) in Macclesfield aforesaid shall be held and enjoyed. And I give and devise the
same Messuage and Tenement together with the sittings in the said Pew in the North
Aisle of the said Parochial Chapel of Macclesfield belonging to the said Dwelling house
whereof I have power to dispose as aforesaid unto her the said HANNAH NEWBOLD to
and for her own sole and separate use for and during the term of her natural life And in
further pursuance of the powers reserved and granted to me by the said recited
Indentures I the said MARY HOOLEY do this by my last Will and Testament duly
executed as aforesaid give devise and bequeath direct limit and appoint All and
singular the Reversion and Inheritance expectant on the decease of my said sister
HANNAH STONEHEWER now HANNAH WALKER and in the said Capital Messuage
Dwelling house Lands Hereditaments and Premises in Over Alderley aforesaid (subject
and charged as after mentioned) unto my said Niece HANNAH NEWBOLD the eldest
and only surviving Daughter of my Sister HANNAH her heirs and Assigns forever she
the said HANNAH NEWBOLD her heirs and Assigns paying and discharging all my
Funeral Expenses with the charges of the Probate of this my Will and all my just debts
as soon as conveniently may be and within the space of three Calendar Months next
after my decease And also paying unto her Nephew BAKER DAWSON the only surviving
Child of my late Niece NANCY DAWSON his executors or administrators the sum of One
hundred pounds I do hereby charge upon the said Estate and Premises and direct that
the same shall be paid to him the said BAKER DAWSON his executors and
administrators within the space of twelve Calendar Months next after she the said
HANNAH NEWBOLD her heirs or assigns shall or may come into the actual possession
of the same Premises But in case the said HANNAH NEWBOLD her heirs Executors or
administrators shall refuse or neglect or otherwise make default in paying or
discharging my said Funeral Expenses the Charge of the Probate of this my Will and
my Debts within the space or time of three calendar months as aforesaid then and in
such case I do hereby revoke and absolutely annul and make void the request and
limitation so by me made to her and her heirs of the reversion and inheritance of and in
the said Capital Messuage Dwelling house Lands and Hereditaments in Over Alderley
aforesaid And I do give devise and bequeath direct limit and appoint the same
Hereditaments and Premises (subject and charged as after mentioned) unto the said
BAKER DAWSON his heirs and assigns forever he the said BAKER DAWSON his heirs
Executors or administrators paying unto his Aunt the said HANNAH NEWBOLD her
executors or administrators the sum of one hundred pounds which I do hereby charge
upon the said Capital Messuage Lands Hereditaments and direct that the same shall
be paid unto her the said HANNAH NEWBOLD within the space of twelve Calendar
Months next after he the said BAKER DAWSON his heirs or assigns shall or may come
into the actual possession of the same Premises And I do will and direct and hereby
charge the Capital Messuage Lands and Premises in Over Alderley aforesaid with the
said Annuity of Forty Pounds by the year for and during the natural life of her the said
HANNAH NEWBOLD and which said HANNAH NEWBOLD I do hereby nominate and
appoint to be the person during who life the said Annuity of Forty Pounds shall be
payable in pursuance of the power given and reserved to me by the said Deed of the
nineteenth day of August one thousand seven hundred and eighty And it is my Will and
Mind and I do hereby direct that the said Annuity of Forty Pounds shall be paid unto
the said HANNAH NEWBOLD her executors administrators and assigns yearly and
every year during the term of her natural life by such equal half yearly payments at such
days and times and in such manner and with such powers and remedies for the
recovery thereof when in arrear as are mentioned limited and appointed by the said
Deeds before recited and which said Annuity I do hereby give and bequeath to my said
Niece HANNAH NEWBOLD for her own proper use and benefit Also I give and
bequeath to my said Niece HANNAH NEWBOLD the sum of One hundred pounds for
her own use And do hereby direct that as well as this bequest as also the said Annuity
shall not be subject or liable to the debts power control or engagements of her present
or any future husband And that her Receipt alone for the said Annuity and all other
Monies which shall be due from time to time by virtue of this my Will shall be a
sufficient discharge for the same I give and bequeath the sum of Fifty Pounds to the
Children of the said HANNAH NEWBOLD, who shall be living when the youngest of
them for the time being shall come of age, to be divided amongst them share and
share alike on the day when such youngest child comes of age And I direct that the
Interest of that Sum in the meantime shall be paid to the said HANNAH NEWBOLD I
give and bequeath to my Grand Nephew BAKER DAWSON Fifty Pounds I give and
bequeath to my servant ELLEN ATKINSON, if she be living with me at the time of my
decease, or in case she shall have first quitted my service then to such Woman Servant
as shall be living I my service when I die, the sum of Fifty Pounds And also my
common wearing apparel my silver tea tongs marked with the letters (M H) and six
silver tea-spoons marked with the letter (M) and the stocks bedding and hangings of
my bed with green hangings and al other such furniture as my residuary Legatee
hereinafter named shall think proper to forego in her favour, for her own use And if the
said ELLEN ATKINSON shall have quitted my service before I die, so as to take no
benefit under the bequest last above made, I do nevertheless in token of her faithful
service give and bequeath to her the said ELLEN ATKINSON the sum of five guineas
for her own use notwithstanding coverture and also a Suit of Mourning, my Ring of
Gold engraved with the name of “ELIZTH. LEA” and my set of common lilac china
ware with the metal teapot I give and bequeath to the Reverend LAWRENCE HEAPY,
Clerk, Minister of the Parochial Chapel of Macclesfield and to his successors Ministers
incumbent of the same Chapel and to the Wardens of the said Chapel and their
Successors the Principal sum of one hundred pounds now lying at Interest in the hands
of the Reverend JOSEPH COOKE, Clerk, and all such ready Money as I shall have in
my possession or lodged in the Macclesfield Savings Bank at he time of my decease
Upon Trust that the said Minister and Wardens do put the said several sums out at
Interest upon what they shall deem sufficient Security and do receive the Interest to
become due thereon and the said Interest when received do yearly and every year lay
out and expend in the purchase and fabric of six gowns of black tammy stuff which said
Gowns it is my Will and Mind that the said Minister and Chapel Wardens do distribute
on the Anniversary Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel in every year to six poor
Widows resident in the Borough of Macclesfield not receiving Parochial relief, And that
the several persons hereinafter named, or such of them as shall survive me, shall be
deemed to have a prior claim before all others during their respective natural lives,
namely, Widow HOOLEY of Dog Lane, Widow BROMLEY of Park Lane, Widow
GLOVER of the New Church Ground, Widow GOODWIN of the Waters, Widow HOOD
of Barn Street and Widow NORBURY of Barn Street And after the decease of any and of
all of the said named Widows It is my Will that the distribution be made to such poor
Widows of Macclesfield yearly forever, with the condition aforesaid, as the Minister and
Church Wardens for the time being of the said Parochial Chapel shall deem to be
proper objects And it is my desire that the material of the same gowns be provided at
the shop of my neighbour Widow WYCH so long as she continues the trade of a
Woollen draper in Macclesfield I give and bequeath my Gold Watch and Chain
Household Goods and Furniture (except only the Articles hereinbefore given and my
common Furniture of the Kitchen which I desire my Niece HANNAH NEWBOLD to
forego in favour of the Servant who shall be living with me at my decease) with all other
my Estate and Effects Real and Personal not hereinbefore disposed of unto and to the
only proper use and behoof of the said HANNAH NEWBOLD her heirs executors
administrators. I nominate and appoint FRANCIS NEWBOLD of Byrons within Sutton in
the Parish of Prestbury Esquire and the Reverend JOSEPH COOKE of Macclesfield
aforesaid, Clerk, Executors of this my Will And do direct that they shall not be
answerable for the acts receipts defaults or disbursements the one of or for the other
but each for his own acts receipts defaults or disbursements only I give and bequeath
to the said JOSEPH COOKE the sum of Six Guineas in remembrance of me and in
compensation of the trouble he may experience in this behalf I direct that all Monies
which my Executors shall respectively expend in the execution of this my Will shall be
reimbursed to them by the said HANNAH NEWBOLD or her heirs And hereby revoking
all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made I declare this to be my last Weil
and Testament In Witness whereof when I the said MARY HOOLEY the Testatrix
have hereunto set my hand and seal this eleventh day of March in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and twenty two.

FRANCIS NEWBOLD and the Revd. JOSEPH COOKE, Clerk, the Executors in this
Will named, were sworn in common form, and they further made oath that the
Personal Estate and Effects of the Testatrix within the Diocese of Chester were
under the value of Three hundred Pounds
