2016 09 Jun - information from Pat Gregory <pat.gregory1@yahoo.co.uk>
Annie Lever Hooley's birth certificate 1880 Stockport Dec 8a 20 reads that she was born on 01
November 1880 (not 01 November 1879 as stated on school registers). Her mother is Martha Hooley of
"Crookley, Bredbury" and a father is not named.

Five months later the 1881 census gives an Annie age 5 months living at Crookilley Farm with Martha
Hooley a daughter of the house, although by her school days she is alone with her mother away from the
farm.

I am trying to chase up a marriage of an Annie Hooley resident at Crookilley Farm to a Maurice
Abrahams in 1908, when a father is given as Thomas Hooley. (Personally I suspect it was a Thomas
Lever but it looked better on the certificate).

Pat Gregory

1901 18 Apr - Lancashire Evening Post - CHURCH WANTED FOR SKELMERSDALE Lady Derby opened a four days’
bazaar and fair at Ormskirk on Wednesday, in aid of the fund for building a new church in Skelmersdale,
where Church people are in a deplorable way as far as church accommodation is concerned. For 120
years they have had to be content with a small chapel-of-ease, formerly belonging to Ormskirk, and
about three years ago this had to be closed owing to its dangerous condition, brought about by mining
operations having disturbed the foundations of the building. Since then services have been held in a
small parish room totally inadequate for the purpose. The present vicar, the Rev. J. J. Hulley, accepted
the living a short time ago, determined that a parish of 6,000 souls should have a church worthy of the
name, and his near neighbours, the Earl and Countess of Lathom and family, warmly interested them-
-selves in the project for a new church.
