1896 Nov 21 - Cheshire Observer - SINGULAR INCIDENT AT A CHESHIRE FOX HUNT. On Saturday the North
Cheshire hounds were out foxhunting in and around the Appleton district. In disturbing the foxes from
the cover they disturbed other game. A couple of pheasants in their flight struck against telegraph wires
and were killed and picked up by the spectators while another flew into the village of Stockton Heath.
This pheasant in its flight flew through a closed window of an empty house belonging to a Mr. Hooley
grocer of course smashing the glass. Some boys observing this entered the house when the pheasant
alarmed at the entrance of the boys forced its way up a chimney and in that way escaped from the
house leaving a few feathers behind as an evidence of its struggle through the chimney. When last seen
it was making its way back to the cover.
