1856 17 Nov - The Manchester Guardian: STOCKPORT - ROBBERY FROM THE PERSON
At the Borough Court on Saturday, a man named WiIIiam Hully, was charged with robbing James
Meadowcroft of 25s. The prosecutor stated that on Saturday afternoon, the 8th instant, he was drinking
at the Three Tuns public-house, where he saw the prisoner. On leaving the house the prisoner followed
him, and when near the Rock Steps, he seized him round the waist, and thrust his hand in his pocket,
from which he took out 25s. The prisoner then ran away and was joined by another man, who asked
“Have you got it,” to which he made sorne reply, and they both ran off together. Information of the
robbery was given to the police, and the prisoner was subsequently apprehended. He now denied the
charge, but was committed for trial.
