Note from Derek Bradbury Aug 2009:
As an aside, my grandfather George Albert Hulley 1885 was apparently so
disenchanted when his mother died and his father married Cora that he ran away to
Canada, aged 17, borrowing the money from his uncle Sam Hulley 1864. I have a copy
of the passenger list with George on the steamship Parisian in March 1903. He worked
his passage back as a deckhand on the Manchester Trader in 1906 and, fortunately for
me and mine, married his teenage sweetheart Ida Lena Matthews 1884 in 1908. The
1901 census shows them as neighbours aged 15 and 16 in Lloyd Street, Stockport.
