In the name of God Amen. I MARY HULLEY of Rowland in the parish of Bakewell in the County of
Derby Widow being weak in body but of sound mind and memory praised be God for the same do make
this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. That is to say, First I will and direct
that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses be paid and discharged by my Executors
hereinafter named. I give and bequeath unto my son JONATHAN HULLEY who now resides with me
all and every of my personal estates at Rowland or elsewhere of what nature or kind whatsoever they
may consist of at the time of my decease to be at his disposal and lastly I do nominate constitute and
appoint my son JONATHAN HULLEY sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament in Witness whereof
I the said Testator have hereunto set my hand and seal this Fourteenth day of July in the Year of Our
Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty Two. MARY HULLEY X her mark and seal.

STEALING IN A DWELLING-HOUSE William Wheelan, 14 and George Hayward, 13, factory operatives,
pleaded guilty to stealing a silver watch and other articles, the property of George Hayward the elder; and
a gold watch and other articles, the property of Ellen Hulley, at Chorley on the fourth of February, 1858.
Wheelan’s mother stated that it was her son’s first offence, and that he was her only help in the support
of three other children; she produced a good character from the lad’s master -- Whelan was sentenced to
be imprisoned for one month, and then given up to his mother; Hayward, who was an orphan, was
ordered to be imprisoned for one month, and then to be sent to a reformatory for five years.

1851 census of Adel, north of Leeds - see below - gives his birthplace as Hassop, which is in between
Rowland, Great Longstone and Baslow. An analysis of the Hulley families living in the area at this time and
producing children indicates that William and Mary may be his parents.
