1859 25 Jun - Manchester Courier and Lancashire General Advertiser. A PIGEON STEALER CAUGHT -
Police Constable Dawson, seeing a man named Richard Bowdon, a labourer, of Nock, coming along a
field at North Moor with something in his pocket, apparently alive, stopped him, and found he had six
pigeons in his possession. He confessed that he had stolen them from the cote of Andrew Hulley, factory
operative, Coldhurst, and on being taken before the borough magistrates at the Town Hall, on the same morning, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two month's imprisonment with hard labour.
