Lancs05 - Descendants of Benjamin Hulley who married Sarah Williamson in 1785

This Family Tree covers the descendants of Benjamin Hulley and Sarah Williamson who lived initially in Hurst but had moved to the Boston and Charlestown areas of Ashton under Lyne by 1796.

The birth/baptism of Benjamin has not been found but he was 67 at his death in 1831, making 1764 his approximate birth year.

NO EVIDENCE HAS BEEN FOUND TO DATE TO LINK THIS PERSON WITH OTHER FAMILY TREES IN THE ASHTON UNDER LYNE AREA. THE ONLY MEANS OF FINDING A CONNECTION WOULD BE FOR A LIVING MALE OF THIS LINE TO HAVE A DNA TEST. THIS WOULD THEN BE COMPARED WITH OTHERS FROM OTHER FAMILY TREES IN THE AREA.

Amendments

January 2017

The entries for marriages held between 1837 and 1911 of most of the persons listed in this FT have now been added to their Notes. There are 5 marriages that were held at either a Registry Office, a Roman Catholic church or a Non-conformist location that are still incomplete. If you have any information about these marriages please contact me.

October 2015

The following person shown on this FT has at least one entry from the Find My Past newspaper collection 1725-1901. Details are shown in his Notes: William Hulley b.1810.

August 2014

Peter John has pointed out an error in the entry of George Hulley born in the June quarter of 1895. His Notes previously showed that he was Killed in Action in WW1 as a result of the attack on the battleship HMS Invincible. He actually died in the March quarter of 1963 at Hyde Registration District. The George Hulley involved in this tragedy was the one who was born in the December quarter 1898. I have amended both entries accordingly.

January 2014

The Manchester Poor Rate Books (PRB) 1706-1900 (575 Hulley entries) are now on Find my Past. The PRB contain lists of every house owner and tenant and the charges made by the Overseers of the Poor in respect of the property, (similar to the modern General Rate) payable towards the upkeep of the district workhouses and to supplement the income of the poorest families. There is one person from this FT included on the PRB as shown below; full details are shown in his Notes.

George Hulley b1841.

A check of the recently published additions on the Ancestry website for the West Riding of Yorkshire Births, Marriages and Deaths 1512-1935 has revealed 2 marriages linked to this Family Tree: Walter Edward Tomlinson and Florence Hulley 1919; George Tom Hall and Mabel Hulley 1933. Full details are shown in the Notes of each person.

September 2012

Nigel Rose of Australia has sent some information about his ancestors including Ralph Clough who married Jane Hulley at Ashton under Lyne and had 4 children in Ashton before emigrating to Australia in 1864. I have found more information about the Clough family and have added it to their Notes.

August 2012

Rita Vaughan has sent details of a previously missing member of this FT - George Hulley born Dec qtr 1898 son of Robert Hulley and Winifred nee Adshead.
