(including), K.48, to Thomas Hulley, £20, 15th Feb. 1776. Whoever will bring them to Messrs Babbs,
Stationers, No. 31, Oxford-Street, shall receive Ten Guineas Reward. Payment is stopt at the Bank.

1776 16 Oct - Proceedings of the Old Bailey

Dated 16th of October 1776

JOHN COATS, JAMES GORDON, and CHARLES KELLY were indicted for privily stealing it from the
person of Thomas Carpenter, without his knowledge, a pocket-book with a parchment cover, value 1s. a
bank note marked No. K 200, dated in London, the 19th of July 1776, value 10 l., signed by John Warren,
for the governor and company of the bank of England, whereby he promised to pay Mr Thomas Hully, or
bearer on demand 10 l., one promissory note signed under the hand of the right Honourable Ralph earl
Verney, in the Kingdom of Ireland, bearing date the 19th of August 1776, 20 l. by which said the note, the
said earl Verney did at three months date promise to pay Mr Robert Chambers, or order, 120 l value
received; one other promissory note signed under the hand of the said right Honourable Ralph earl
Verney, bearing date the 19th of June 1776, 150 l. y which said note he said Ralph earl Verney did at
three months date promised to pay to the said Robert Chambers.

1777 - Gratuity of £20 paid - from B of E archives.

1777 Nov 11 - Daily Advertiser - Bank Notes.(including) No. K.184, dated the 20th Aug. payable to Thomas Hulley for
£100. Whoever will bring the said Notes to Messrs Croft and Co. Bankers, in Pall-Mall, or to Messrs
Dawes and Smithson, Change-Alley, shall receive £100 reward, and in Proportion for any Part. No
greater Reward will be offered, as Payment is stopt at the Bank, and every other Method taken to
prevent a Negotiation course at Home and Abroad. (also in Nov 13th 17th,27th, 28th editions)

1777 Nov 29 - Gazetteer and New Daily Advertiser - Public-Office, Bow Street, Nov. 1777. Broke open last night, the
counting-house of Humphrey Bowles, Esq.; at Vauxhall, and stolen (including), a banknote, for £20,
payable to Thomas Hulley, dated the 28th of July, 777. (also in the Dec 5th, 6th, editions)

1778 - Gratuity of £20 paid - from B of E archives.

1778 Jan 17 - Public Advertiser -Two Hundred Pounds Reward - Bank Notes - (including). No. K.184, dated August 10,
payable to Thomas Hulley, £100. Whereas the above-mentioned Notes were received at Messrs Lee
and Co.s Bankers, in Lombard-street, on the 7th of November last, for a Draft that was clost the same
Day, and have been frequently advertised to no Purpose, this is to give the Person Notice if he will
enclose them to Messrs Croft and Co., Bankers, in Pall-mall; or to Messrs Dawes and Co. in Exchange
Alley, the Bearer will certainly receive the Reward in Gold. It is conjectured the Holder of the Notes only
keep them concealed from an Idea that something disagreeable may arise on their appearing. But as a
public Advertisement is to all Intents and purposes equal to a Bond, he need not be under any
Apprehension as to the Consequence. If the person possessed of the said Notes will enclose the £500
Bill to either of the Places named the Stop of the other two of £100 each will be immediately taken off at
the Bank, or if he is disposed to restore the whole of the Notes, and will point out, by Penny Post or
otherwise, any more satisfactory Method, by which he may receive the Reward, it will be punctually
complied with. This is positively the last Time the Notes will be advertised. The Payment is stopped
at the bank, and every other Method taken to prevent a Negotiation.

1779 31 Aug - General Evening Post - Died Yesterday, at his house at Hackney, Mr Thomas Hulley, one of the Clerks
of the Bank. (also in the London Evening Post same day)

1779 1 Sep - WILL of THOMAS HULLEY Middlesex September 1779 (TNA ref PROB 11/1056) Son Harry and Joseph
Rickards appeared at the Consistory Court to swear that the signature on the above document was his
father's and his friends:-

1st September 1779 APPEARED PERSONALLY HARRY HULLEY of the parish of St Anthony in the
County of Middlesex gentleman and JOSEPH RICKARDS of the parish of St Mary Whitechapel in the
same County gentleman and severally made oath as follows. And first the said HARRY HULLEY for
himself made oath that he is the natural and lawful son of THOMAS HULLEY late of the parish of St
John Hackney aforesaid deceased which happened as he verily believes on or about the thirteenth
day of August last past and the said JOSEPH RICKARDS for himself made oath that he also knew
and was well acquainted with the said deceased for twenty years and upwards before and to the
aforesaid time of his death and both these deponents further make oath that depose that they knew
and were well acquainted with the said deceased's manner and character and writing and subscribing
his name having often seen the said deceased write and also write and subscribe his hand and that
having now with care and attention viewed and approved the annexed paper writing purporting to be
and containing the last Will and Testament of the said deceased the same beginning thus "Whatever
estate and effects I may be" and words entitled unto and ending thus "as witness my hand this twentieth
day of June 1758" and thus subscribed "T. HULLEY." These deponents do verily and in his
consciousness believe the said are in written beginning and ending of the said Will and the said
.......... subscription thereto and the whole body ....... and contents thereof to be all properly wrote and to
be of the proper handwriting and subscription of him the said THOMAS HULLEY deceased. Signed
HARRY HULLEY JOSEPH RICKARDS the day aforesaid. The said HARRY HULLEY AND JOSEPH
RICKARDS were duly sworn to the truth of the within affidavit before me ANDREW COLTER Ducarel
Surrogate Notary Public.

Hulley Saint John Hackney, Middlesex Saint John Hackney (From London LIves 1690 to 1800)

On the Third day of September in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy Nine
Administration with the Will annexed of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of THOMAS
HULLEY late of the parish of St Anthony in the County of Middlesex deceased was granted to MARY
HULLEY widow the relict of the said deceased and universal legatee named in the said Will no
Executor being named in the said Will having been first sworn duly to administer.

1779 Oct 26 - Morning Post and Daily Advertiser - By Mr Ireland, At his Great Room, in Bow-street, Covent-garden, on
Friday next, the 29th inst. at 11 o'clock precisely, A Collection of near 1500 volumes of valuable Books, in
various languages, amongst which are the works of the most celebrated authors, both antient and
modern, being the entire and genuine library of the late learned and ingenious Mr Thomas Hulley,
deceased and removed from his late dwelling-house, in Mourning-Lane, Hackney, for the convenience
of sale.
To be viewed on Thursday next, when catalogues may be had at Mr Ireland’s Great Room aforesaid.
