12. William Hully

1811 31 Jul - baptised St Thomas' church Friarmere: William s. of John & Betty Hully (IGI).

1816 Born at Saddleworth? This information has been derived from examination of the 1841 census return for
Saddleworth - see below - and from the registers of St Chad's church Saddleworth. These show that two
Hulley males - William and John were living at Royal George in 1833 and 1837 respectively and were
both were Slubbers.
On this basis, and with the knowledge that John Hulley b.1773 was living with John Hulley b. 1816 his
son, as shown on the 1841 census for Uppermill - Manns - it is assumed that John and William were
brothers. This has proved to be correct ith the discovery of the baptism of William at St Thomas's
Friarmere in 1811. His age in the 1841 census is 5 years out.

I was searching to see if the Friezland Church graves had been transcribed but it looks like they have not and I was looking to see if anyone had issued the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census for the Friezland, Royal George, Greenfield location which is how I came to your site. This entry interested me only because of the occupation of the head of the family, I expect William could have worked at my gg grand parents leathern tannery business which manufactured straps and grip belting for manufacturing. My gg grand parents James and Elizabeth YOUNG are buried in Friezland Church graveyard and lots of the children are in the grave too who died very young. 1891 census RG 12/3552 Greenfield f87rev Shaw Hall William Hully Head S 36 Leather Strap Maker Yorkshire Saddleworth Sarah Hully Sister S 40 Cotton Doubler Yorkshire Saddleworth If you have any details on anything to do with the area I would be really interested to hear from you.
