1862 06 Feb - Sheffield and Rotherham Independent - Magisterial Proceedings - ROBBERY AT
WOODHOUSE. - Ellen Turner, of Woodhouse, was charged with stealing two
flannel shirts and some stair carpeting, the property of Thomas Hulley, of
Woodhouse... The shirts were stolen from a hedge where they had been put to dry,
and the carpeting from a brewhouse. The prisoner was apprehended on Tuesday
evening by Sergeant Smalley, and remanded until Friday.

1862 13 Jun - Sheffield and Rotherham Independent - FREEHOLD FARMING LAND AND
BUILDINGS in HANDSWORTH, WOODHOUSE - To be SOLD by AUCTION, by Mr
ROWLAND WARD, at the ROYAL HOTEL in Handsworth Woodhouse aforesaid, on
Wednesday the 25th day of June 1862, at Five o'clock in the Evening.
(5 Lots) The property is distant about 5 miles from Sheffield, 5½ from Rotherham,
13 miles from Worksop, 10 miles from Chesterfield, only about three-quarters of a mile
from the Woodhouse Junction on the Manchester, Sheffield, and Lincolnshire Railway,
and a little more than 1 mile from the Woodhouse Mill Station on the Midland line.
The House contains Dining and Drawing Rooms, each 6 yards by 6 yards; Butler’s
Pantry, six Bed-Rooms, two Attics, capital Cellaring, and Dairies. The Outbuildings
consist of Carriage House, Stables, Saddle-Room, Barns, Cowhouse, Sheds, Dove-
cote, and the usual Out-offices. There are Gardens, and a large and productive
orchard. Upwards of £2000 has been expended within the last five years in the
improvement of the House and Homestead.
The Property is peculiarly suitable for the Residence of a Respectable Family. It is in
a very salubrious locality, and in the midst of beautiful Scenery. The district is hunted
by two Packs of Hounds.
