Descendants of George Hully of Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire who emigrated to America in 1832

This family tree (reference USA01) shows the descendants of George and Hannah Hulley, born 1774 in Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire, who emigrated to America in the brigantine "Benjamin Morgan" in 1832 with their six sons. Four years later they flat-boated down the Ohio River to start a new life in the then pioneer Switzerland County, Indiana.

This family tree has been constructed almost entirely from information passed to me by Robert Hulley Velte, who has edited a book previously written by his ancestor William C. Hulley in 1963-64 entitled "A History of the Hulley Family from 1490 to 1963". I am most grateful to Robert for the above information and wish to formally record my thanks to him. Chapter 1 of the above book titled 'The Early History' covering the period 1490 to 1830 refers to the Hulley family of Macclesfield, Cheshire. This family has no direct connection with that of Ashton under Lyne and is fully covered in my booklet "The History and Hulley Families of The One House" with a pedigree starting at 1488. Please refer to one of the family trees under Lancashire - Lancs01 the descendants of Robert Hullie - for the ancestors of George Hulley above.

I would like to welcome Bill Bunce of the USA who is a descendant of The History and Hulley Families of The One House who married William C. Hulley in 1882. Bill is also researching his Bunce family history, particularly in Ireland.
