This family tree (reference Yorks01) covers the descendants of Nycolas Ulleye, married 1565 at Barnsley. They originated from the Bradfield, Ecclesfield, and Rotherham areas of south west Yorkshire. They include the ancestors of Richard Hulley who, with his wife Ann and their first four children, emigrated to South Africa in 1820. They preceded another Hulley emigration to South Africa, the other coming from Rainow, near Macclesfield, Cheshire and which consisted of only one person - a son formerly in the Royal Navy. The Hulley family of Rotherham and district most probably worked in agriculture before moving into the towns to be engaged in the cutlery industry. They were not wealthy and only one will (dated 1863) has been found relating to the family.
